Seminar and Annual Meeting   23 Feb, 2012

Rob Southam - What You Can Do To Produce a Life Time Reader 4.00 coffee, seminar 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm   

Rob will talk on the latest trends in children's books and practical strategies to support all children as life- long readers, including the most reluctant . Rob Southamhas teaching experience across a variety of age groups and  has presented workshops and seminars to principals, secondary and primary teachers, and parents. Rob is currently working at Scholastic New Zealand.

Rob will supported by the Scholastic Territory Manager, Marg Fennessy. There will be a display to support the seminar including  Jill Eggleton's brand new writing resource for teachers to view – (It's called Key Links Writing level 1) Spot prizes provided by Scholastic

Literacy Trust Award - At the seminar a teacher with 5 years or less experience will be awarded the NZRA conference registration free from a draw (worth $510).

Annual meeting 6.00 pm (pizza dinner!)

We have a great committee who work to bring you these PD opportunities but would appreciate more support – it fun and not onerous!

22 March- Gail Loane-Leading Young Writers to Authorship

Spend a day (9.00 – 5.00 pm) with Gail as she shares her knowledge and passion for finding and nurturing the writer in every child -and every teacher.

This workshop explores:

″ beliefs which drive our writing programme

″ texts and their features - what texts offer both me and my students

″ descriptions in every type of writing

″ planning for teaching and learning informed by current writing samples

″ lesson design, to meet needs

″ leading the learning - moment by moment teaching decisions

″ closing the gap between expectation and what a student is actually achieving

″ linking reading and writing

″ the integration of writing across the curriculum

Gail is the author of I've Got Something to Say – leading young writers to authorship. She is a highly respected NZ educator who has worked as a teacher, principal, school advisor and on national projects such as the Exemplars and Schooling Improvement.  She was awarded the Queens Service Medal in 2007 for Services to Literacy.
